Celebrating the Universal Day of the Romanian Blouse, Women’s Entrepreneurship, and Cultural Ties between Romania and Cyprus
The Embassy of Romania in Cyprus is proud to host the Romanian Blouse Fashion Show titled “Threads of Friendship” on Friday, June 12, 2026. This unique event, held at the historic Landmark Hotel in Nicosia, celebrates the International Day of the Romanian Blouse and highlights the strong cultural ties between Romania and Cyprus. Organized in the spirit of women’s entrepreneurship, the gala showcases traditional heritage reimagined through modern fashion, bringing together diplomatic circles and business leaders.
The event is organized by the Embassy of Romania in Cyprus in partnership with Flori de Ie and renowned Cypriot artist Michalis Pantelidis, highlighting the enduring friendship between Romania and Cyprus through the universal language of cultural heritage, traditional craftsmanship, and contemporary artistic expression.
The evening will include an exclusive presentation of authentic costumes from the Romanian heritage, part of the Flori de Ie private collection, founded by Cristina Chiriac, as well as the official launch of the “Dialoguri Brodate” scarf, a unique artistic collaboration between Flori de Ie and Michalis Pantelidis. Inspired by the rich textile traditions of Romania and Cyprus, the scarf becomes a symbol of Romanian-Cypriot friendship, cultural dialogue and the way in which identity, memory and beauty can be carried forward through art.
The fashion show will present twenty traditional Romanian costumes, worn by ten Cypriot women entrepreneurs and ten Romanian women entrepreneurs, symbolizing the important contribution of women to economic development, cultural dialogue, and international cooperation. The event will also mark the official launch of the new scarf “Embroidered Dialogues,” inspired by the rich textile traditions of Romania and Cyprus.
Drawing on traditional Romanian motifs and Cypriot artisanal embroidery, the project creates a shared visual narrative that celebrates cultural heritage across borders and generations. Through photographic documentation and digital collage, Michalis Pantelidis reinterprets details of traditional Romanian blouses provided by Flori de Ie and handmade Cypriot textiles crafted by the Cyprus Handicraft Service, transforming them into wearable contemporary artworks. Symbols of protection, spirituality, prosperity, and identity are interwoven throughout the design, reflecting the timeless and universal language of textile traditions.
The event is organized with the support of the Presidential Administration of Romania, the National Confederation for Women’s Entrepreneurship of Romania, and the Cyprus Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

Through the beauty of the Romanian blouse, the creativity of contemporary artists, and the remarkable contribution of women entrepreneurs, this event demonstrates how culture, business, and community can bring nations closer together and strengthen the friendship between two states. We are proud to mark this occasion alongside our Cypriot partners and to highlight the ongoing and dynamic dialogue between our countries.”
In turn, Cristina Chiriac emphasized: “Each traditional costume in the Flori de Ie collection is a living testimony to Romanian identity—hand-stitched, ornament by ornament, by hands that understood that beauty can also be strength. Romania possesses one of the richest and most diverse traditions of folk costume in Europe, and each ethnographic region—with its solar, floral, or geometric motifs—tells a different story about the same Romanian spirit. These costumes are not relics of the past; they are messengers. Our collaboration with the Embassy of Romania in Cyprus and artist Michalis Pantelidis confirmed that there exists a language older than words—the language of hand embroidery, symbols, and roots—and that this language is understood everywhere in the world. Through ‘Embroidered Dialogues,’ we demonstrate that authentic heritage belongs not only in museums but also to people, and that cultural entrepreneurship has the power to unite nations.”
More than 300 guests are expected to attend the event, including representatives of the Government and Parliament of the Republic of Cyprus, members of the diplomatic corps, representatives of the business and academic communities, and members of both the Romanian and Cypriot diaspora communities.
